Anthony Virgil
Bio
Anthony Virgil enters his 17th season as Head Coach of the Passaic County Community College men’s basketball program in 2025-26 after taking over during the 2009-10 season.

A former Panther himself, Anthony played at PCCC from 2004-2006 and was a member of the only men’s basketball team in school history to reach the NJCAA National Championship Tournament. During the 2004-05 season, the Panthers finished 4th in the nation, marking one of the greatest seasons in program history.

Following his time at PCCC, Anthony continued his playing career at Kean University before going on to play professionally for the Sheffield Sharks in the British Basketball League (BBL).

Anthony returned to PCCC during the 2008-09 season as a member of the coaching staff before being named head coach the following year. Since taking over the program, he has built the Panthers around toughness, accountability, player development, and providing opportunities for student-athletes to continue their academic and athletic careers at the next level.

Over his tenure, Anthony has guided the Panthers to more than 220 career victories, multiple Region 19 playoff appearances, and several 20-win seasons. In his first season as head coach, PCCC finished 22-10 overall and advanced to the Region 19 Championship Game. His most successful season came in 2016-17 when the Panthers finished 25-5 overall and reached the Region 19 semifinals.

Anthony has helped more than 30 student-athletes advance to four-year colleges and universities, while multiple former players have gone on to play professionally overseas. Many former Panthers have also moved into careers in coaching, law enforcement, education, and public service.

Known for his strong ties throughout North Jersey basketball, Anthony continues to recruit and develop talent from across the region while emphasizing academic success, personal growth, and community representation alongside athletics.

In addition to coaching basketball, Anthony serves as a firefighter in New Jersey and remains heavily involved in mentorship and community outreach initiatives.
